JNI Corporation’s technology leadership has led the industry’s leading SBus manufacturer to introduce the first 2 Gb/s Ready™ SBus host bus adapter, the FibreStar FCE-1473. Built on the heritage of the industry’s very first 2 Gb/s HBA, the 2nd generation 2 Gb/s technology in the new FCE-1473 incorporates all of the features and benefits derived from 18 months of field testing and joint product development with major manufacturers. The result is a feature-rich, dynamic HBA that can be installed into any 1 Gb/s or 2 Gb/s storage area network (SAN). On-demand automatic rate negotiation from 1 Gb/s to 2 Gb/s – a JNI innovation embraced by the industry – is a core feature of the FCE-1473, assuring that 2 Gb/s products can be seamlessly integrated into existing 1 Gb/s SANs. Inband IP and SCSI support, a staple of key JNI HBAs for several years, offers IP-based management without a separate Ethernet-based network. FC-Tape support also assures native FC backup devices can be used in any SAN without additional hardware.

The 2 Gb/s Ready FCE-1473 has a peak performance throughput of 400 MB/s (full-duplex), and has half-duplex throughput of ~200 MB/s. In addition, the FCE-1473 features hardware-assisted context switching, which maximizes SAN data throughput and minimizes host CPU utilization, increasing overall SAN performance.

The FCE-1473 is the latest generation of JNI’s market-leading SBus HBA for Solaris systems. JNI has leveraged years of manufacturing best-of-class Fibre Channel adapter products for Solaris supporting key features like Dynamic Reconfiguration on Sun servers. JNI was the first independent (non-captive) manufacturer to introduce an SBus Fibre Channel HBA in May 1995, and to date has more than 50,000 SBus HBAs in the field, more than any other manufacturer.
